Loan apps are generally restricted on the Google Play Store if they request sensitive permissions like access to contacts and call logs without a strong, justified reason.

Google’s policy is designed to protect user privacy. Access to contacts and call logs is considered highly sensitive because it can expose personal relationships, communication history, and can be misused for harassment, spamming, or unauthorized data collection.

Because of this, many loan apps that rely on aggressive debt recovery methods or contact-list tracking are either:

  • Rejected during Play Store review, or
  • Removed after policy updates

However, exceptions exist if an app can clearly prove that such permissions are essential for its core function and it complies with Google’s strict disclosure and user consent rules.
